Travel Distance Maps
The Benefits Of Modern Day Travel Distance Maps20 years ago, if you were planning a trip, in all likelihood you went to your local supermarket or discount store and purchased a map or an atlas. Maps, while providing all the roads and such that you needed to get to your destination, were usually big and bulky. Once opened, if you were like so many others, and then folding them up to their original dimensions without creating one big wrinkled mess. What's more, maps were only updated once a year and you could not plan your trip around construction, hotels, attractions, etc. Travel distance maps from the past left a lot to be desired. However, in these modern times you have so many better options than using paper maps to get your directions. Free programs such as Google maps and MapQuest have made it easy to find directions to whatever destination you are interested in. They are often updated daily so that finding your way around construction and other problem areas is much easier. You can also calculate your miles versus gas output so that you can plan financially for your trip. Another great benefit to these free programs is that you can plan for alternate routes. There is nothing more frustrating than planning a trip and finding out the road you want to take is full of tolls. By choosing the avoid toll roads option, you can avoid them altogether. You also have the option of choosing faster routes over shorter routes. (Sometimes less mileage means longer time because of traffic lights, etc.) If you travel a great deal and like to have a lot of plotted courses, you can also purchase mapping programs such as Streets and Trips. These kinds of programs allow you to plan routes and will also calculate your mileage, your gas, and will account for the average speed limits to your destination to give you a very accurate timeframe for arriving at your destination. What's more, it has the ability to plot your pit stops and has access to all of the hotels along your route. You can tell it how many hours you want to travel in a day and it will tell you the best place to stop to achieve your goal. Traveling can be stressful, and not everyone has hundreds of dollars to spend on a GPS system. With free map options available on the Internet, there is no reason for anyone to be stuck with the old fashioned maps from years past. |
